Akari Sushi

So I've been trying to find a good sushi place that has a good happy hour. Most places just offer appetizers, but if I'm at a sushi place I want SUSHI... not appetizers! Akari Sushi in the Valley has a pretty nice happy hour that does include a good amount of sushi.

Akari's happy hour is Monday - Thursday 5-7pm and the drinks include beer, small hot sake, or cold sake each for under $3. I got a Sapporo and a cold sake for just $5.50!

I was also quite impressed with the big selection for happy hour food.  For just $2.50, you can get Chicken Gyoza, Albacore Roll, Tuna Roll, Vegetable Roll, Shrimp Sushi, and BBQ Sea Eel. I tried all of those except the tuna roll. I liked all of them except the Sea Eel. It was really fishy, and I only took one bite. Blah! Although the Vegetable Roll didn't have any fish in it, I really enjoyed it. The creaminess of the avocado with the crunch of the carrot and cucumbers were great.  And the food doesn't end there. For $3.75, you can get Albacore Sushi, Tuna Sushi, California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Spicy Albacore Roll, or Shrimp Tempura Roll. I had the Albacore and it was decent.

 Shrimp Sushi - $2.50
Albacore Sushi - $3.75

 Albacore Roll - $2.50

 Chicken Gyoza - $2.50
(4 pieces)

So am I a fan?? I would say yes. The only thing is that I LOVE sushi and I'm sort of a sushi snob. The sushi was okay, but I wasn't blown away with any of it. Since I'm so used to having some really great sushi (Katsu-ya in Studio City), I had to remind myself what a good deal I was getting. So if you need a quick sushi fix and are on a budget, Akari is a good choice. I walked away with a full belly and a REAL nice buzz. The Vixen was happy.
