I'm not a fancy writer... just a girl that likes a good drink.

The Tar Pit

If you are looking for a sexy, new restaurant to take a date... The Tar Pit is the place. It's dimly lit and has an elegant charm that one would have found in the 1920's. If Clark Gable was alive today, I'm sure you'd find him there.

Their happy hour runs daily from 5-6:30pm and offers $6 hand-crafted cocktails and "snacks" for $2.50 - $5. We liked the prices, but happy hour until 6:30pm??? That was definitely hard on some of us. But of course, we still did our best to try every single drink they offered. Happily, we succeeded.

The Tar Pit offers a good selection of cocktails for $6, along with an Aperitivo (created by bar Manager, David Kupchinsky) that changes weekly. My favorites were the Brown Derby, Moscow Mule, and The Duchess (the Aperitivo for the week).

Moscow Mule
-vodka, lime, and housemade ginger beer

Bees Knees
-gin, honey, lemon

The Duchess
(The Aperitivo of the Week)
-Bianco, Antica Carpano, Absinthe, Orange Bitters

Brown Derby
-bourbon, honey, grapefruit

Martini
-equal parts gin and vermouth, orange bitters

Sazarac
-rye, sugar, Peychaud's Bitters in
  an Absinthe-rinsed glass

They have a nice selection of drinks, but I wished that the food selection was just as good. They call the happy hour food "Snacks", which is fitting because it's more "snacking" food. I would have like to seen something more substantial.  Before going, I read some reviews that stated the food wasn't good. Hm. I guess I'm picky on drinks, but not on food because I thought everything was good except the Pickled Deviled Eggs. Pickling the eggs made them pretty rubbery. I heard bad things about the Mini Mac, but one friend and I like it. One did not.

So what's my final thought??  I'd come back to the happy hour for drinks, but I would probably order dinner off the regular menu.
