House Margarita - $4.75
They have a small selection of food for happy hour that runs $2.95 per plate. Here's what I've tried:
-Chiquito Quesadilla: Small, but okay for $3.
-Queso Fundido: Four cheeses melted with Poblano Chiles and mushrooms. Soooo good. It's a heart attack waiting to happen, but you have to order it.
-Chicken or Beef Empanadas: They're good and you get two!
-Dos Chiquito Tacos: You get your choice of chicken, braised beef, carnitas, or shrimp. I've had the carnitas and the meat was great but the tortillas were awful. I just ate the meat with a fork.
Tacos - $2.95 for 2
Queso Fundido - $2.95
Along with the Margatini, Mexicali also has some good deals on the regular menu. The Grilled Artichoke is only $3.25 and their Sangrias are $6 each or $20 for a pitcher.
Grilled Artichoke w/ Bell Pepper Mayo
$3.25
So Mexicali definitely has some good happy hour prices. The drinks are decent, but the food is mainly finger foods. It's good place to go to get some drinks if you aren't that hungry, or you can just opt to go for the regular menu. Their happy hour runs daily 4-7pm, but then it starts up again at 11pm. I like going early around 4pm and sitting out on the patio for some pre-dinner drinks.

Love Mexicali - it's part of my early experiences in LA and the place where I had my first date with my now wife.
ReplyDeleteI know of several episodes of food poisoning from this restaurant. And they are known to recycle foods.
