Mad Bull's Tavern

Alrighty, folks!!! I have some wonderful news! There's a great new happy hour place in The Valley and it's called Mad Bull's Tavern. It's in Sherman Oaks and I can't tell you how happy I am that this place opened up. The one thing that The Valley lacks is a place for a good hand-crafted cocktail, and Mad Bull's has them!

Mad Bull's has happy hour everyday from 4-7pm. Wow!! Now it's 11am-7pm for happy hour drinks. and then half off appetizers from 4pm-7pm.
Here are their specials:
-1/2 off appetizers, so they'll run you $2.50 - $4.50
-$2 off all specialty drinks (regularly priced at $10)
-$2 off most draft beers
-$2 off call and well drinks
-$5 for Golden Cadillac Margaritas

Lately I've been finding places that just offer wells, wine, and beer for happy hour, so I was quite happy to see 16 different hand-crafted cocktails offered at happy hour. If you know me, you know I like good cocktails... so I felt like a kid in a candy store. I tried the 1984, the Caipirinha, and the Gold Rush. All were very good, but The Gold Rush was the star of the night. D.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. I'll be going back soon for that! And I know what you're thinking... $8 may seem a bit high for happy hour but these drinks would usually run you $12-14 other places so I was fine with the price. But if that's too high for you, you can always go for a well or a call drink. For happy hour, a well will run you around $4 and a call will be around $6. If you are more of a beer person, you'll be looking at $2-4 for most drafts. (All drafts are available for happy hour except for Allagash, Chimay, and Delirium.)

1984
Tru Organic Gin, Lemon,
Blue Curacao, and simple syrup

The Gold Rush
Eagle Rare Bourbon,
lemon juice, and honey
*Favorite of the Night*

Caipirinha
Cachache imported from Brazil,
muddled lime wedges
and then shake hard over ice

Not only did I love my drinks, but I loved the food as well. And the prices were great! There are 7 appetizers to choose from and I tried with the Pancetta Mac and Cheese, Short Rib Tacos, and the Tempura Battered Crawfish. I was a fan of all three! The Crawfish were tender and flavorful, and it came with an awesome lemon aioli. The Short Ribs Tacos were good... loved the pickled onion on top. But my favorite was the Pancetta Mac and Cheese. Mmmmmmm... just enough pancetta so it didn't overpower the dish. I can't wait to have that again.

Pancetta Mac and Cheese - $4

Short Rib Tacos - $3

Tempura Battered Crawfish - $4.50

All three appetizers came to only $11.50, so between two people that's around $6 each. Quite the deal for such good food!! Last week was their soft opening, but their official grand opening will be July 8, 2010. Since my visit came before the grand opening, I thought I may run across some snags in service or such... but I didn't. My waitress, Lauren, was helpful and attentive. So if you live in the Valley, you have to try this place.

  3. Any idea why they call it happy hour instead of happy hours? I never go for just one.
